3-Strand is also known as "Twisted" wire.
6-Strand is also known as "Coaxial" wire.
8-Strand is also known as "Woven" wire.

Stranded wires apply a low force level over a given span with minor to moderate deformation depending on the severity of the malocclusion.

Round stranded wires are traditionally used in early treatment to correct misaligned teeth. Rectangular stranded wires are typically used in transitional applications to align and detail occlusions effectively with comparatively lower force than solid stainless steel archwires.
